At our TOMAS schools, each student studies one-on-one in individual booths with their tutor, each equipped with its own Whiteboard and all necessary study materials. In order for a student to think freely, their tutor must understand their personality and how best to nurture their creativity. To this end, we assign each student the teacher we believe would best be able to do this, and naturally, this changes per subject. We also enact an Academic Affairs Management System, implemented individually according to the difference in academic ability and personality of each student. Our Homeroom Teacher System reinforces the growth of each student from lesson to lesson. Finally, a Group Lesson Supplement System is available to help those catch up on anything that requires particular focus. A student’s academic success is not merely the result of their hard work, but also a result of the understanding and co-operation of those closest to them. The trinity of the student, their family, and their tutors must have mutual understanding and trust for one another and communicate clearly and frankly about the state of their education. This tripartite approach to education is key to a student’s a success, and we endeavor to mediate a mutual harmony between all three parties in addition to individual tuition.
Harmony between all three parties is achieve through Educational Counseling. When thinking about their current goals or future career path, students will encounter many hurdles and problems that need to be solved. Finding and regularly confirming what those problems are is an indispensable element of furthering their education. We carry out counselling sessions each semester with both students and their guardians to check on progress from the previous term, goals for academic progression, and how studying is going at home in order to further optimise the student’s approach to learning with us. In addition, we send a monthly report to the student’s guardians with remarks from the head of the school on their monthly achievements to have a better understanding of their progress.
