CSR

Devoting everything to giving
children a bright future.

Riso Kyoiku Group’s approach to SDG’s

At its core, Riso Kyoiku Group believes in doing everything we can to grant children the best possible future. To this day, we consider an ideal education to be one that takes into account every student’s individuality and offer them education that caters to those unique aspects. Centred on our mainstay genuine one-on-one private tuition school TOMAS, we operate in the Tokyo metropolitan area and surrounding prefectures, helping students achieve their dream of acceptance into their desired school. However, in order to compete in an increasingly global world, the generations of the future will also need to cultivate a passion outside of purely studying. To this end, we created Benkyo Plus One with a focus on exposing students to sports, arts and other cultural activities.

In order to be a company with sustainable growth while remaining acutely aware of the importance of environmental, social, and corporate governance, we also are investing time and effort in achieving a number of Sustainable Development Goals as prescribed by the United Nations. In doing so, we hope to contribute to Japan’s culture of education and society as a whole, and will continue to devote our time and energy to creating a better future for all children.

Sustainable Disaster Relief Activities

We regularly hold and sponsor charity events to raise funds that we donate to the Japanese Red Cross Society.

What We Do

In addition to fostering a child’s academic abilities, we operate Plus One Kyoiku, a venture that allows each child’s individuality to shine through by finding a passion outside of study. In doing so, we are also able to raise funds to contribute to disaster relief in times of need. We have held charity events such as the TOMAS Concert and our Christmas Ballet, using the funds raised by attendees to donate to the Red Cross Society of Japan, helping to alleviate the pain and strife in times of disaster.

Sustainably Supporting Environmental Groups

We are currently supporting Kodomo Eco Club, an organisation whereby children can take part in environmental conservation projects and learn more about the world around them and how they affect it.

What happens?

We are a supporter of Kodomo Eco Club, an organisation that allows children from all over Japan to take part in environmental conservation activities. In addition to sponsorship donations, members of Riso Kyoiku Group are actively involved in aiding and running events set up by the organisation.

Connecting with Society

More Than Just Study–Benkyo Plus One

Plus One Kyoiku enables our students to find their passion outside of just studying, helping them develop as a person.

Beyond Conventional Education

We invite around 2000 children ever year to our TOMAS Concert and Ballet events, allowing them to witness and experience cultural and artistic performances before their own eyes. We also sponsor and run the TOMAS Cup, where aspiring athletes of all ages compete in football, tennis, golf, basketball and other individual and team sports. We hope in doing so, our students are able to learn more about the spirit of fair play and teamwork through sport.

One-on-one Tuition Classes within Schools

Installing operations within schools and utilising TOMAS’ expertise in advancement to elite schools to relieve the burden on overworked teachers and improve pass rates.

What exactly do we do?

According to a 2018 report released by the OECD, of countries participating in the study, the average amount of time per week spent working by teachers was 38 hours–Japan ranked highest at 56 hours per week. In addition, time spent outside of office hours on work-related tasks for teachers in Japan was 7.5 hours a week on average, also the highest of the countries polled. On top of this, the changing approach to university entrance exams introduced the need for a mandatory certain level of verbal reasoning in written English, putting even more strain on already over-exerted teachers.

Governance

Charter of ethics

A strong sense of morality and pride towards our work is at the very centre of our code of conduct and encapsulated by our Charter of Ethics.

What is it?

All employees of Riso Kyoiku Group should have a high sense of moral accountability and pride towards their work, and we have codified our principles concerning company contribution in our Charter of Ethics. In addition, we vow to be upstanding, contributing members of society through the ten principles enshrined within, taking pride in our work and committed to providing the best possible education to our students and patrons

Corporate Governance

We recognise Corporate Governance as one of the most pressing topics for management and are making concerted efforts to strengthen our approach to it.

The Steps We Are Taking

Currently, Riso Kyoiku Group has a board of ten directors, including two external directors. By selecting two external directors, we aim to increase transparency in corporate management and ensure fairness, as well as strengthen our executive auditing functionality. In addition, our external auditors are selected with legal expertise in mind, reaffirming our corporate management policy of sustainable growth. Furthermore, in appointing a Corporate Compliance Director, we have established a business model that ensures its own effectiveness through a strong emphasis on compliance. By enforcing strict adherence to compliance, we can ensure that there will be no reoccurrence of past misconduct and be prepared for any potential issues in future that may affect company performance and integrity.
